Here’s what Happened when I Ate Blueberries Every Day for a Week

So, a couple weeks ago I read an article about blueberries being the go-to fruit for torching belly fat and aiding weightloss.

I don’t know if it’s the same for you, but sometimes I forget to eat lots of fruit during the day. It depends on the season, but it can be challenging to pack it all in!

Well, I wanted to know if this blueberry thing was authentic. Could I really eat blueberries every day for a week and lose weight?

I figured, what better way to up my fruit intake, and do a little self-experiment? Blueberries happen to be in season right now, so I got right on it. Might as well give it a go, right? Nothing to lose.

Let me share what I did and the results I saw.

But first, let’s take a look at just how powerful the small but mighty blueberry is for our health

You might already be familiar with the fact that blueberries are a powerhouse of nutrients and phytochemicals. They are loaded with the blue or purple anthocyanin pigments - known for their antioxidant power and the ability to reduce the risk of chronic health issues such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

These little berries are also bursting with vitamins C, vitamin, K, vitamin A,  manganese, and dietary fiber. They are known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, with proven amazing benefits for brain health, gut health, glucose and weight regulation.

It seems like science is still exploring all the wonderful influences on different areas of our health that blueberries can offer.

So I was pretty excited to explore this experiment myself and start reaping the benefits!

So here’s how I did it and my results:

I ate a cup of blueberries a day for seven days.

I tried where possible to buy organic blueberries, but when I couldn’t I just made sure I washed them really well with a little lemon juice and pure water.

Lucky for me, I love blueberries pure and simple so it was easy for me to just munch them straight up out of a bowl.

However, in order to get more creative I found some other delicious ways to incorporate them.

I added blueberries to a breakfast smoothie, blended with a frozen banana and some nut milk and a handful of spinach.

I mixed them into a bowl of raw oats, chia seeds, hemp seeds, and almonds and topped that with some coconut yogurt and sliced banana.

I added them to my lunch salad - they pair really well with fresh herbs, arugula, cubed feta, avocado, and cucumber. Top that off with high quality olive oil, a squeeze of lemon and some balsamic vinegar and pink himalayan salt!

I also blended the blueberries and mixed them with some ice and green tea for a refreshing cool drink. I didn’t do this, but I am sure a sprig of mint would be amazing in this recipe also!

Okay, so here’s what I noticed after the seven days were up.

  1. My Skin!

My skin felt amazing. I noticed an extra glow and smoothness that I hadn’t had before. I don’t know if it was a combination of better sleep, some morning sunlight and the berries or what, but I saw an undeniable change in my face.

  2. Improved Digestion

Honestly, I found my digestion improved and my metabolism speeded up. I think there’s something to be said about starting your day with raw, fresh fruit. It really gives you that kickstart you need.

  3. Steady Energy Levels

I felt good in my body. I just had a kind of extra spring in my step and I was not consuming more caffeine! I think that the blueberries gave me a steady feeling of energy throughout the day.

  4. Weight Loss

Yes, I did experience a flatter tummy after one week. Now, of course I was also mindful of my health choices during that week. I ate a lot of healthy food, and I did not eat late dinners that can sometimes cause bloating.

My Verdict

Was my daily cup of blueberries responsible for so many positive changes? I believe so, yes. I have to add that of course what worked for me, might be different for you. Of course it also depends on what else you are consuming, your daily movement, sleep, and stress levels.

Overall, there is no harm in trying out this experiment for yourself. If nothing else, you will be giving yourself an extra dose of healthful antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber. You really cannot lose!

Plus I’m willing to bet that alongside other healthy choices, you’ll see positive benefits in your skin, digestion, and waist line.
