So You Over Indulged, Now What? Tips to Get Back on Track!

Even the most well-intentioned of us let go sometimes and end up overeating.

You know how it goes…especially around the holidays. That combination of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas…and whatever else you may celebrate - if it involves eating it’s highly likely you might just overindulge at some point. Am I right?

So here’s the thing - even if you do overeat or snack on the wrong things too many days in a row, you can always bounce back! And I’m going to tell you how…

Here are the best ways to get back on track after overeating, whatever the occasion.

Let me know if they work for you! Reply to me, tell me how it goes…

Drink hot water and lemon first thing

This little tip not only feels good, it works magic for your digestion and helps your liver to eliminate toxins. It also boosts your immunity, balances your pH levels and just generally makes you feel super clean and hydrated, ready for the day.

Simply squeeze a little lemon juice into a cup of warm water, for extra detoxing, grate some lemon zest in there too from the skin.

Give your digestive system a break.

A great thing to do is just give your digestion system a little break for 24 hours or so. I’m not talking about a full on fast or cleanse, but just stick to soups and smoothies or steamed vegetables and salads for the day, and let your insides take a breather from all that digesting and processing!

When your organs are able to take a breather from the work of digesting and eliminating, they can get to work faster on healing and recovering.

You can up your detox and boost your nutrients by adding lots of garlic, onions, and dark leafy greens such as spinach and chard to your soups or smoothies.

Get your heart pumping

Moving your body can make you feel better fast. Get outside for a brisk walk, run, or bike ride and you’ll feel so much better with an endorphin boost.

Some gentle yoga is also a great way to get your blood moving and your digestive system working, twists are great for this!

Take a sauna

Sweating out toxins in a sauna or stream room is a great way to feel better and get some good relaxation in too. A good ten to twenty minute session can improve your circulation, help you to relax and de-stress and brighten your complexion.

Make sure you drink water

Hydration is extra important after a bout of overeating. You’ll probably be experiencing low energy from overindulging in too much sugar, alcohol, or processed foods which can make it easy to reach for caffeine throughout the day to feel better.

As much as a coffee feels like what you want, truly it’s better to dose up on some water instead.

You’ll replenish and renew your cells and give your liver some much needed hydration to help eliminate toxins.

Don’t feel bad about yourself.

Look, we’re all human and we all enjoy the odd indulgence, it’s no big deal. The worst thing you can do is beat yourself up about it! There’s really no need to feel guilty. All you have is this present moment and your intentions going forward. So release any feelings of shame and use these tips to turn it around now.

Get outside, drink some water and go for a walk, that’s it! That’s all it really takes to get back on track.

Mindset is really everything when it comes to weight loss and healthy living. Respect yourself, love yourself, and do your best for next time.
